Portrait of A Gentleman, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right "A Beaumont 1846", original English, mid 19th century, gilded frame, 72 x 57cm. *The portrait painter Ann Beaumont lived in London and exhibited at the Royal Academy 1820-1832 and elsewhere. She painted a number of portraits for Jersey families.

Provenance: from The Collection of the late Jean and Jacques Sieulle, Jersey.

Jean and Jacques Sieulle were entrepreneurs, gallery owners, property developers, and discerning collectors, particularly of Oriental art and antiques. They married in Paris in the late 1960s and for their honeymoon embarked on a six-month world tour during which they compiled a list of places they hoped to revisit. Throughout the following two decades the couple travelled extensively, revisiting many of the destinations in the Far East and South Pacific that had first captivated them, among them Bora Bora, Thailand, Sri Lanka, China, and Japan. They also journeyed widely across Europe. In 1990 they spent several months in Hong Kong before returning to Jersey to retire. Most of the pieces from their collection were acquired during their travels.
