1. Bidding at Auction

If you wish to bid in one of our sales, you must register beforehand. Your bidder registration can be recorded at reception in person, via email [email protected] via our website or online at The Saleroom, and Invaluable. Or Easyliveauctions.com

We offer a number of ways of bidding at auction:

At the Vintage and Collectors Auctions

  • Bidding in person
  • Absentee bid - If you are unable to attend we can bid on your behalf. Fill out an absentee bid form (in person, over the telephone or email or fax it to us) with your maximum bid for that item, and contact us or view sales results online after the sale to see if you were successful. We will bid up to your maximum level on your behalf.

At the Fine Art Auctions

  • Bidding in person
  • Absentee bid (as above)
  • Internet bidding Via www.the-saleroom.com or www.invaluable.com or www.easyliveauctions.com
  • Telephone bidding - Telephone bids must be booked in advance

2. Commission

You pay price at the amount gavel fell to you (the hammer price) entering a binding contract, plus a buyer's premium (percentage of the final hammer price).

Buyers Premium flat rates of:

  • Fine Art 24%
  • Vintage and Collectors 20%
  • Wine 12%
  • Vehicle Registration Numbers 10%
  • Specialist sales may vary

3. Payment Arrangements

You will be contacted to let you know if your bidding was successful, you can also check by logging onto My Account, calling the office, or waiting to receive an invoice.

We accept bank transfers, bank drafts, cash, cheques and debit cards.

4. Shipping

Please note, we do not offer a postal service for any lots.

All lots, with the exception of furniture and large items, will be shipped to Mail Boxes Etc in Portsmouth, UK at a minimum charge of £10, dependant on lot size and number of lots. Arrangements for onward delivery or collection from Mail Boxes Etc are the responsibility of the buyer and will incur additional delivery charges. Buyers of furniture or large items are responsible for their removal and delivery but contact details for Guernsey-based removal companies can be provided upon request. 5. VAT and Export

It is important to note that export restrictions may apply to certain items of Channel Islands interest. Please also be aware of the CITES regulations in your country of residence.

The Channel Islands are not part of the UK or EU. For UK residents only, Import VAT of 5% is payable on all items over 100 years old and VAT of 20% is payable on any item under 100 years old.

Import VAT is calculated on the total amount of the invoice, which will include the hammer price, buyers premium and any additional charges and is payable to Martel Maides Auctions. For any direct deliveries of furniture and large items, Import VAT is payable directly to the removal company prior to the items being shipped, together with the cost of delivery.
