Notes:
* John Pearson was one of the most highly regarded craftsmen working at The Newlyn School of Guild and Handicrafts.
Together with Charles Robert Ashbee, he was a founding member of the Guild of Handicraft in Whitechapel, London.
He left the London Guild in 1892, and was invited to Newlyn, Cornwall to teach at the School.
Pearson was greatly influenced by William de Morgan (1839-1917) whilst employed at de Morgan''s workshop decorating tiles and pottery.
The galleon was a Victorian symbol of discovery and adventure. John Pearson used this design often in his work, this large example possibly being an exhibition piece.
