A rare Alarm Stick gadget cane
late 19th century, the engraved and pierced brass knop in two parts on a banded collar, the upper section embossed with scrolling floral motifs and with a central circular mesh grille through which the user blows to operate the alarm, the lower half pierced in an interlinked Anthemion design, the siren within stamped '7446' with the patented name 'Eureka' in Greek script, mounted on a tapering rosewood shaft, 35in. (89cm.) long.
