A Joseph Egg over-under double-barrelled single trigger heavy travelling flintlock pistol, Circa 1810
with browned octagonal 5 ¼in. (13.3cm.) barrels, approx 20 bore, gold 'Josh Egg' stamp to top and bottom barrel, platinum lines and vents at breech, flat stepped locks engraved with martial trophies at the ends and sunbursts near semi-rainproof pans, inscribed 'Joseph Egg', French cocks, rollers to frizzen springs, chequered butt with flattened base and engraved boss inscribed 'JOS EGG'S IMPROVEMENT', silver escutcheon with a bridled horse head over a crown crest, the large square front trigger guard engraved with sunburst, border and martial trophy, side mounted steel ramrod, 10 ½in. (26.7cm.). With an unusual slim butt, the locks have detents to the tumblers and the moving parts have wide 'shoulders' to reduce friction, in unused condition.
