A cased pair of 54 bore rifled percussion target pistols by Matthias Nowotny, Leitmeritz, Circa 1830
the browned octagonal swamped twist barrels signed 'Nowotny' in gold to top line, engraved breech with inlaid gold and platinum lines, engraved percussion bolsters with pierced platinum plugs, engraved case hardened breech tangs with adjustable back-sight, numbered in gold for each pistol, case hardened locks, signed with border and foliate decoration, fitted with long spurred hammers, blued set triggers, figured walnut stock with carved beast mask to fore-end and chequered butts, engraved case hardened steel mounts, side and lock plates inscribed 'a Leitmeritz', spurred trigger-guards with engraved borders, martial trophy and pineapple finial, in a lined and fitted walnut veneered case with accoutrements, barrels refinished, fore-sight replaced.

  • Condition: One hammer has been expertly replaced, some minor pitting around the tang on pistol 2. The case has a missing section of veneer to rear corner plus some splitting to sides and some nibbles to the edges, escutcheon has lost detailing.
