Description:

A 19th century Officer's dress sword
by Henry Wilkinson, the slightly curved and engraved polished steel blade with crest and motto Sine Macula and the owners initials J. A. C., the pierced brass hilt with wire-bound fish skin grip and brass scabbard with two suspension rings, length 39in (99cm).

  • Notes: * The owners initials J. A. C. refer to Julius Alphonso Carey a celebrated Guernsey man, born circa 1836, died 23rd January 1893.
    There is a mural tablet in the Town Church St Peter Port, Guernsey, with dedication from loving kinsfolk and friends which was designed by A. Andros.
    An Old Elizabethan (Number 857) Julius Carey became a Lieut.-Colonel in the third regiment of the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry.
    He joined the House of Carey & Co. in Alicante, Spain in 1853, and later worked at the Belgian Consulate for ten years.
    Appointed A.D.C. to the Lieut.-Governor of Guernsey in 1860 and to each successive Governor until his death, probably the longest record of such service in that century.
