Description:

1964 Sunbeam Alpine Series III roadster
Chassis No. B9203868, Engine No. B006030339, LHD.
The Sunbeam Alpine was introduced in 1959 and produced in five Series until 1968. It was squarely aimed at the US market, where competitors MG and Triumph had been enjoying considerable success with their MGA and TR sports cars. Built on the Hillman Husky II floorpan, the Alpine used Sunbeam Rapier running gear including the overhead-valve, four-cylinder engine, which grew from the original 1.5 to 1.6 litres for the Series II and again to 1725cc for the final Series V version. The Series III introduced further improvements including larger front disc brakes, a revised interior and a bigger boot due to the relocation of the fuel tanks to the rear wings, which enabled fitment of an upright spare wheel to free up luggage space. The 1963-64 Series III was the rarest in the five series of Alpines produced, before the Series IV introduced revised rear styling, with the distinctive fins largely removed.
This example is equipped with a later 1725cc engine, as used in the Series V Alpine, which has been fitted with a Holbay head and Weber carb kit to improve performance and reliability. It has also had a reconditioned gearbox whilst in the current ownership. It is finished in the classic colour scheme of red with Minilite style alloy wheels and a black interior, which has been very nicely retrimmed and is in good condition, as is the hood. The car is in good, very useable condition overall - it is not mint, but it is not a garage queen and is used regularly. It presents very well with good bodywork and interior and a very clean and presentable engine bay. It has been well maintained and according to the vendor, drives very well with good performance and a suitably sporting exhaust note.
* Please note: The current 5 digit registration number will be retained by the vendor upon sale and the vehicle therefore issued with an exchange registration number, at the vendor's expense.
