William De Morgan (1839-1917) - a good 'Frightened Bird' double lustre shallow dish or charger
1890s, painted with an eagle with wings raised defending her nest, in ruby and gold lustre on a white ground, the reverse with heart-shaped leaf border and concentric circles, impressed '17' to centre and with 'Morris & Company, 17 George St., Hanover Sq. W.1.' label, inscribed 'R.358 D.M. Dish C H.Y.Y. £8', 14 1/8in. (36cm.) diameter.
