Richard is a past graduate of Bath Academy of Art where he earnt his degree in Fine Art. Even as a student, he was spending time at jumble sales, antique shops and auctions as an enthusiastic purchaser of entry level antiques. (After an earlier career in shellfish farming, he joined Martel Maides as it offered him the opportunity to follow two interests at once – property and chattels.) As one of the island’s longest serving estate agents, he’s been privileged to sell many of Guernsey leading houses (often several times) and to have the chance to see many owners’ stunning collections of furniture and artifacts. Now a stand-alone specialist auction house, Richard maintains his association with the business as a non-executive director.
