Description:

Jaguar E-Type V12 - 1972
UK Registered from new – 04/04/1972

Chassis Number – 1S50857BW

Transmission - Borg Warner three-speed automatic

Engine – 5343cc V12

Reg No – 38111

Vendor acquired the car in January 2012 and imported it to Guernsey from the UK. The previous owner had undertaken an extensive renovation. Detailed invoices on file amount to over £30,000 and work included the supply and fitting of a reconditioned V12 HE engine by a Jaguar V12 specialist, a full renovation of the interior, refurbishment of suspension and brakes, fitting of a stainless-steel exhaust system and a respray in British Racing Green. The car showed approximately 5,300 miles when it was acquired by vendor and is now showing approximately 19,500 miles. The previous owner acquired the car in 2007, and the MOT history shows in 2006 the car had only covered 3,905 miles. The last time it changed hands before that is recorded as 24/12/1980 but unfortunately the MOT history does not go back that far.

In addition to the normal maintenance and servicing required of a classic car some sensible upgrades have also been undertaken, these include:

1. Fitting of a Rob Beere adjustable power steering kit. One complaint of the Series 3 e-type is that the steering was over assisted for the American market. This kit allows you to easily adjust the steering "feel" to exactly where you want it and gives the whole car a more sporting experience.

2. Fitting of a Coolcat Corp spin-on oil filter adapter kit to allow the use of a modern oil filter and eliminate the oil leaks of the original bowl system.

3. Refurbishment of Stromberg Carburettors.

4. Fitting a new aluminium radiator, polished header tank, cowl and electric fans. Changed the less reliable otter switch to a Fosseway Performance solid-state version and fitting of a radiator fan override switch to the dashboard. Fitting new cooling hoses etc and upgrading of the water pump to the newer version.

5. Replacement of electronic oil pressure gauge with more reliable mechanical gauge.

6. Fitting upgraded Poly-bushes to suspension.

7. Replacement of the old mechanical fuel pump to the more reliable electronic SU fuel pump.

In preparation for the upcoming auction the E-type was taken for a service. They advised that the rear brake discs were corroded so they were replaced before the auction so the car was mechanically sound for the sale on the 12/07. The rear discs on the E-type are inboard by the differential so to replace them is quite a big job. The mechanic needed to remove the independent rear suspension subframe (IRS). Once the unit was out of the car they recommended further works which have been undertaken. Effectively they have rebuilt the IRS and rear brakes. This included new discs, brake and handbrake pads, new brake calliper, all four of the half shaft universal joints and inner/ outer wheel bearings etc + fitting a Rob Beere easy bleed rear brake kit. Invoices will be included in the history file for the car.
