Description:

A rare and large Karl Ens porcelain group
probably 1930s, possibly a unique, one-off studio piece, modelled as three Humbolt penguins huddled together, on a rectangular plinth base, the base with green printed maker's mark, the underside with scratch mark '5034 1' and inscribed 'HMS Raven 1940' in pencil, 14 1/2in. (37cm.) high, 13 1/2in. (34.25cm.) wide.
* HMS Raven was the Royal Naval Air Station in Eastleigh, Hampshire, from 1939 to 1947. This is a possibly a piece once displayed in the one of the formal or officers' rooms at the station.
