Description:

A fine pair of silver mounted flintlock holster pistols
circa 1750, with flower-head engraved silver trigger-guard and inlaid plant on a column, hallmarked London 1754, maker JA, the locks signed Griffin (Benjamin Griffin) within a foliate ribbon, walnut stocks with scallop shell carved in relief, the spurred cast pommels chased with scallop shells and grotesque human masks, the proof marked 10in (25.5cm) round steel barrels engraved Bond Street, London, silver tipped wooden ramrods, the silver escutcheons engraved with pineapples, scallop shell and wings, contained in a later fitted mahogany case with some accessories, total length 15.5in (39.5cm).
