Description:

A 1973 Mercedes Benz 450 SLC
Longer in wheelbase than the 450SL convertible, the 450SLC was a two-door, luxury four-seater fixed-head coupe introduced in 1972 to top the Mercedes-Benz range. Powered by an advanced light alloy 4.5 litre V8 engine producing 225bhp and automatic transmission, the car achieved a maximum speed of 136 mph, its performance potential acknowledged by a sophisticated dual circuit disc braking system and anti-dive front suspension geometry. Wide doors reveal a typically high quality interior and aid access to the rear seats, the interior lightened by the long expanse of glass, uninterrupted by a centre pillar. Luxuries included power steering, electric windows and an optional electric sunroof. Its performance credentials were underlined by excellent class results by carefully developed SLC coupes in gruelling dirt-road rallies in South America and on the East African Safari rally.

This is an outstanding example in absolutely superb, original condition - indeed it is possible to say that it would be very difficult to find better. Built in Nov. 1973, delivered in July 1974 by Carols Motors Wolverhampton and first registered in September 1974, it has been in single, fastidious ownership since new. Originally costing £10.151.80, with the original invoice included in the paperwork, it is in Metallic Red (paint code 571) with Parchment leather interior (code 265), with optional extras of alloy wheels and electric sunroof. It has covered a warranted mileage of 26,465 miles, and is even complete with the original handwritten 'running in' card by the owner, detailing strict rev limits from 0-6500 miles. It is complete with handwritten details of the comprehensive maintenance record in the owner's own workshops, which handled a fleet of over 40 vehicles. Always maintained regardless of cost, it has not been driven on the road since arriving in Guernsey from the UK in 1989, being kept in a private collection of Mercedes cars and driven solely on estate grounds on a regular basis. Recently fitted with a new battery and fuel pump, it may require gentle recommissioning in readiness for regular use. An exceptional example of Mercedes-Benz quality and a true 'time-warp' motor car for a connoisseur of the marque.
