Shipping

Should you be successful with your bidding we would be pleased to make arrangements for your purchased lot(s) to be shipped to various destinations. For further information please contact James Bridges or Leoni Hunter on +44 (0)1481 722700, who will be pleased to assist.

*** UK BUYERS - PLEASE NOTE: Our buyer's premium is 15% of the hammer price, with no VAT payable on the premium. However, as we are outside the EU, the item will be liable to import VAT if imported into the UK, at the reduced rate of 5% for antiques. Please factor this in to your bid. The 5% will be liable on the full invoice cost, including buyer's premium. We highly recommend that the import VAT is paid as part of your auction invoice. This will allow us to pay the VAT due to UK customs upon import, clearing customs swiftly and with no additional administration fees from UK Customs. Due to the inability of Guernsey Post to cope with the reduced 5% Import VAT rate in their systems, we now send all items purchased by UK buyers to Mailboxes in Portsmouth, who will then deal with onward shipping from there. They are a very good Mailboxes franchise and their charges are reasonable. If you wish to collect the goods yourself, please let us know within three working days of the sale so that we can remove the Import VAT from your invoice before payment.

Conditions of Sale

Buyers Premium: 15%

VAT and Export: It is important to note that export restrictions may apply to certain items of a Channel Islands Interest. Please read the notice in the catalogue relating to Export Licences.

The Channel Islands are regarded as a Special Territory of EU and therefore no duty is payable on antiques, pictures and collectibles imported into the UK or Mainland Europe, however the Channel Islands are regarded as non-EU for the purpose of VAT.

Currently UK buyers must pay 5% VAT on the import of antiques and original works of art. Please factor this in to your bid.

The 5% will be levied on the full invoice cost, including buyer's premium. We highly recommend that the import VAT is paid as part of your auction invoice. This will allow us to pay the VAT due to UK customs upon import, clearing customs swiftly and with no additional administration fees from UK Customs. Due to the inability of Guernsey Post to cope with the reduced 5% Import VAT rate in their systems, we now send all items (except furniture and oversize items) purchased by UK buyers to Mailboxes in Portsmouth, who will then deal with onward shipping from there. They are a very good Mailboxes franchise and their charges are reasonable. If you wish to collect the goods yourself, please let us know within three working days of the sale so that we can remove the Import VAT from your invoice before payment.

Methods of Payment: Purchases can only be released when full settlement (inclusive of all charges) of all invoices issued to the buyer is received in cleared funds. All cheques should be made payable to Martel Maides Auctions. We accept the following methods of payment: sterling chque drawn on a UK branch of a bank or building society; bankers draft/building society cheque; sterling travellers cheques; cash; bank transfer; debit cards & credit cards.
