Who's who

  • James Bridges -

    Director, Martel Maides Auctions

James joined Martel Maides Auctions as a Director in January 2010, after two years acting as a consultant for the firm. He has over fifteen years of experience within the international auctioneering and antiques field, joining Bonhams after leaving Oxford University in 1993 and progressing to Sothebys in 1998, heading the Toy Department at both firms. This period was followed by six years as an independent antiques dealer with outlets in the UK, USA and online, specialising in collectable toys and antique furniture. In addition to auction valuations and cataloguing, he is responsible for Martel Maides Auctions' formal valuation services for Insurance, Probate and Family Division and is enjoying broadening his knowledge to include specialist fields such as Channel Islands silver and paintings.

  • Richard Fox -

Director, Martel Maides & Martel Maides Auctions

Richard Fox is the director in charge of Open Market Residential Sales and Lettings. After leaving UK based education with an honours degree in Fine Art, his early career path rather incongruously led him to a ten year stint in shellfish farming and through a period in property renovation before arriving at Martel Maides. He has been a leading negotiator specialising in Open Market sales for 25 years and is respected for a pedigree that is second to none. He has been privileged to sell many of the Island’s finest homes - quite often, more than once! Richard is also a director of Martel Maides Auctions.

  • Nick Renny, MRICS -

Director, Martel Maides & Martel Maides Auctions

Nick is a Chartered Surveyor with more than 30 years experience in the UK, USA and Channel Islands and can therefore rightfully claim to have an extraordinary breadth of commercial property knowledge. He is also a Licensed Auctioneer and has auctioned a wide variety of properties from fields and farmhouses, to follies and mansions. Nick holds the island record, having sold a single property at auction for £5 million. When not selling, leasing, valuing or advising on the full and varied range of commercial property on the island, he can be found sailing, surfing or windsurfing in local waters. Nick is also a director of Martel Maides Auctions.

  • Keith Enevoldsen, FNAEA -

    Director Martel Maides Auctions

Keith Enevoldsen was born in Guernsey and educated at Elizabeth College. Having originally worked for the Civil Service prior to branching out into his own watersports business, he entered into Guernsey's property market as an Open Market negotiator in the early eighties. After ten very successful years he found a fresh challenge in the world of retail finance - selling money! However, he missed the cut and thrust of the property market and joined Martel Maides in 2001 as a Local Market negotiator; becoming the department manager in 2003 and a Director of the Company in 2004. He brings a formidable mix of enthusiasm, experience and professionalism which clients and applicants expect from Guernsey's leading property agency. Also, a qualified Auctioneer, Keith can also be found selling chattels and furniture on Thursday afternoons at our Auction Rooms. He tries to keep some spare time for boating and any competitive sport he can find!

  • Michael Smith -

    Head Porter, Martel Maides Auctions

Michael was born in Guernsey and educated at Notre Dame du Rosaire and St Josephs Schools. On leaving school Michael served five years as an apprentice panel beater at Bougourd Bros Guernsey, a career he stayed in for 20 years. Since leaving the garage trade he worked as a glazer and store manager before being lucky enough to combine his interests in antiques with a position as Head Porter at Martel Maides Auctions, which he has held for the last 10 years.

  • Justin Gibney -

Deputy Head Porter, Martel Maides Auctions

Justin is Martel Maides Auctions' resident drummer, keeping the team abreast of cutting edge developments in the world of rock 'n' roll. Since joining the firm in 2004, he has become a favourite with many of our customers, providing a winning smile and cheerful outlook on even the busiest of sale days. He is famously hard working, to the extent that he can be found every day recuperating with a lunchtime nap. Details of his education and early career are shrouded in mystery, but having left briefly to taste self-employment in 2009, he is now back in the fold, to the joy of colleagues and customers alike.

  • Lynda Lajoie -

    Auction Administrator, Martel Maides Auctions

After completing her Education at St Denis School for Girls in Edinburgh and Aberdeen College of Commerce, Lynda started work at an Employment Agency where, after many exams and a lot of training, managed the temporary jobs section. Lynda later worked in the hospitality industry where she was trained in all aspects of the business and worked for several different establishments, eventually gaining sufficient experience to run two restaurants in Aberdeen. Lynda came to Guernsey to continue working in hospitality and then ventured into the world of trust and company administration, met the man of her dreams, and has been here ever since! For the past ten years she has been with Martel Maides Auctions as Auction Administrator and her responsibilities include, in order of difficulty, keeping her colleagues in order and ensuring that every auction is run as smoothly and professionally as possible.

  • Claire Holliday -

    Auction Assistant, Martel Maides Auctions

A de Carteret by birth, Claire is a fully-fledged islander by ancestry if not by height! Educated at St Sampson’s school, she started her working life with General Accident where she soon found that not all things happened if you just waited. Fancying a change of scene, she broadened her outlook by moving to the mainland where she lived in Surrey and Hampshire for 5 years while working for Peugeot and a toy company called Vivid Imaginations. Returning to Guernsey, Claire worked for the jeweller Catherine Best before joining Martel Maides in 1999. Renowned for her discretion, whatever she does with her free time she’s not about to tell us.
